HENRY "TEX" OUDERKIRK: 1950-2007
“Hi, you’ve reached Tex--I’m out making someone's life more colorful!” (excerpt from Tex’s phone message).
If you knew Tex, then he probably made your life just a little more colorful, too. He was quite the renaissance man: a talented tattoo artist, model and diorama builder among other things. He was quite active in the tattooing community, participating as an organizer and judge at many of the conventions. He was also involved in the car model hobby scene as a coordinator and judge for the Masscar Model Club. Most recently he offered his services to the Boston/World of Wheels Model Car show division in the last few years. He has always been involved behind the scenes at hot rod events including the Laconia Rod and Custom Show and was an integral force in organizing the model car show event there. As a person, Tex was quick witted. Whether sharing the latest off-color joke, or offering assistance on a model project to the young as well as the old. You could count on him offering a sensitive solution if you were having a personal problem or in need of help working on your house. It’s hard to sum up in just a few paragraphs, what this man meant to a lot of people, but he affected many around him. He nurtured some who showed talent in tattooing by offering them an apprenticeship, so they could start their own tattoo business at some point down the road. Through his own struggles he became the man we all grew to know and love. He was also a sponsor for people in Alcoholics Anonymous, helping folks get back on their feet. In his short time on earth, he accomplished quite a bit, was quite generous and was always ready to lend a hand. It will be quite difficult to fill the void he has left in our lives. This writer has well over ten years of anecdotes, good times, and fond memories, especially in all the model car and hot rod shows we attended together. Tex was here for such a short time but boy did he effect a lot of people. He will not be forgotten!,
